Our Holiday Vacations Throughout Squaw Lodge

Just got back from a great vacation at Squaw Valley. Didn't see everything, because there was just too much to do. But what we did get to see was absolutely great. The resorts developed by SnoCountry are huge, and there's always something to fill your day. Here's some of the more fun activities that we were able to undertake.

You can't go to a ski resort and not talk about the skiing. Even though I'm not the biggest fan, they had some really beautiful slopes. Lake Tahoe is known for being a really beautiful place, and it definitely lived up to the legend here, that much is for sure.

We also had a lot of fun checking out some of the Olympic courses. Squaw Valley was actually the host for the Olympics back in the 60's. So there's tons of courses you can check out that were used in competition.

But the skiing wasn't the only thing we enjoyed. Back at the High Camp they had a fantastic Irish pub that this reference thought up. The Auld Dubliner, which had the best authentic Irish pub food. Amazing to have something so great at your door step.

Not to mention the great food as well. From an authentic Irish Pub to Fireside Pizza Company. There really was something here for everybody. Was great to have pizza for the kids, and pub food for the grownups.

I spent a lot of time in the Base Area, simply because I'm not the strongest skier. But I do like the outdoors, and they had plenty of activities that were ideal for me. Like rock climbing. The rock wall was a great workout and even better challenge.

Then there was the miniature golf too. You can't go to a resort with a miniature golf course and not play right? Not to mention the fun Olympic museum as well. All in all there were tons of fun things to see even when we weren't out on the slopes.

Overall it was a great vacation. The nice variety meant I never did the same thing two days in a row. Plus the good food guaranteed I came back with a few well deserved vacation pounds.

Jougla Point in Antarctica

Oh the magnificent winter wonderland of Antarctica! It offers endless fun and amazing travel memories. During my trip I ended up at Jougla Point on Goudier Island, which got me reminiscing about working in Public Relations and had me in awe of the world around me. It's the most remote and amazing continent to see! []

It was here that I realised how amazing it is to travel. Here you are away from the busy hard working commercial world. No office blocks, no skyscrapers, no computer issues and no phone calls. A glorious white wilderness of only snow, ice and penguins, with the odd bit of crazy weather!

Opposite Jougla Point sits the British Antarctic Base of Port Lockroy, which I was eagerly awaiting. Rather than have Jougla merely passed off as a stepping stone to Port Lockroy, however this place also left a lasting impression on the travelling Northern Irishman. Penguins slid down hills in this remote terrain as nonchalant as you like!

We had docked the previous night off the coast of Goudier Island. We had a nice relaxing time on our ship the MS Expedition on route to Jougla Point. Everything was perfect and all set for the next day's landing at this place.

Leaving our boat on the Zodiac for Jougla Point you could feel the magic. The adjacent island from where Port Lockroy, the British Base sits. []

There were lots of penguins at this remote location, you've kind of got to expect that when you're in Antarctica!! I got a few close up photos of a Gentoo penguin.

Jougla Point was probably our quickest and shortest Antarctica landing. It was all quite surreal and I'd give a lot to be standing back there right now in a blizzard miles from civilisation.
