How To Make A Date Extra Special

By Ruben Stein

Dating has no standard norms to follow to be successful. You can do wherever you like and whatever you want to do to make it romantic and memorable.

One contributor to have a deep and great relationship is on how you and your partner enjoy when go dating. The following are dating strategies you have to consider.

Dating is mostly held outside. To be different this time, try to set up a date in your house or in your date's house. This could be more comfortable and relaxed especially if both of you are alone in the house. You yourselves have to prepare your meal, share your recipes and enjoy each other's company.

To get ready for the special occasion, plan out everything early so you have ample time to prepare the meal. The time spent cooking in the kitchen together will no doubt be as special as when you both start enjoying the delicious meal.

The date could be excellent also if both of you love music. You can spend your date by listening to a live band in your place or go to a concert.

If both of you went to a concert, this one will always be remembered as concerts are mostly remembered for ages.

If both of you like a common hobby then why not make it a focus on one of your dates? A shared interest in something you are both passionate about will elevate enjoyment to an even greater level.

For some it can be expressing feelings through paintings, going to the movie houses to enjoy the film showing and acquiring valuable stamps and coins. Again, what is important is that the couple experiences a fruitful partnership in going about with the activity.

History made from timber

By Dolores Gonzales

Situated in western Washington State, Hoquiam is a small town rich in history and local flavor. The town's location close to large stretches of forest and the Pacific Ocean have shaped the past as well as the present. The history of the town reflects the history of logging and shipping.

Before European settlers arrived, the two main tribes that lived in the area that became Grays Harbor County were the Chehalis and the Quinault. Their descendants still live in the area, continuing their tribal traditions and communities to this day.

James Karr was the first Caucasian resident of the area. Soon after that, Ed Campbell moved to the settlement village, becoming the first postmaster of Hoquiam. His house still exists in town as the oldest home in the area. Other people soon joined them, and by 1890, the town had over 1300 people as residents.

During the late nineteenth century, logging became the main industry for Grays Harbor. The first lumber company in the area, the Northwestern Lumber Company, found success from the 1880's until the 1930's, employing the locals and helping the town grow. More settlers and money came to town when the railroad made its way to the area. The Northwestern Lumber Company basically controlled the local lumber industry into the next century.

Over the past one hundred and twenty years, about three hundred different logging companies have existed in Grays Harbor. The most important of these was the Polson Logging Company. Today, the Polson Museum, operating from the old Polson home, tells the story of the lumber industry in Hoquiam. Exhibits and photographs illustrate the lives of past logger. It holds almost 10,000 artifacts concerning the local history and the logging industry in the area.

Throughout the Twentieth Century, Grays Harbor, like the rest of the country, experienced ups and downs in the economy. As a one-industry town, Hoquiam was hurt by the downturn of the Great Depression and the labor strikes of the following years. By the last two decades of the Twentieth Century, logging was no longer a booming business, especially in Grays Harbor. Logging's effect on the environment and animals' habitats caused the government to pass laws restricting logging, thus causing layoffs and fewer businesses.

However, the locals have shown great spirit in fighting to stay in business. The town is home to many tourist attractions such as the Logger's Playday, the Shorebird Festival, and the Hoquiam Riverfest. These events celebrate the past while serving the future. By bringing visitors to the town, the festivals fuel money and investment into the economy. The town has worked to restore sites of historical significance and to become a resource for historical research.

Today, the community of Hoquiam, WA thrives and continues to work to build a better future. The residents display pride in their history as well as in their current achievements. They constantly strive to bring new businesses and events into the area, and to rebuild what has fallen into memory. Logging is no longer Grays Harbor's only industry. The area has found the greatest resource in its people.

Sweden Travel Advice And All The Things One Can Do There

By Julie Simpson

A visit to Sweden which is the largest of the Scandinavian countries is a must if you enjoy old world country punctuated with sophisticated city life and cultural activities. Sweden travel advice would focus mostly on the delightful must see places as well as which months are coldest if this is a concern for one or alternatively if you are looking for beauty and ice skating.

Although most of Sweden is covered by rich green forest, and caressed by sparkling lakes, it is punctuated with bustling clean cities of organized beauty. Stockholm bears testimony to this fact, with its gorgeous waterfront, pristine lake and friendly people. Most of the inhabitants are fluent in English which is a great help to any lonely or lost traveler. So a visit to Stockholm should be on ones top ten to see list

If Renaissance buildings and medieval charm is right up your alley, visit Gamla which is both charming and elegant. You will enjoy not only the charm of that era but also the small winding streets which are safe to walk along even up till midnight in summer day light hours. Their pastel like charm will both charm and uplift you as you carry on about your day.

Another delightful way to travel through Sweden is by cycling, it is cheap, easy to do and also enables one to get a bit of casual exercise. Hiring a bike is easy and affordable, but more than that, you cannot miss one single bit of this charming country.

If it is picnics or walks you are after, most of Sweden pays host to this activity but try Haga Park for its relaxing spa like environment. Fishing and canoeing is also popular in one of the many pristine lakes, so if this is your focus make sure to dress warmly between November and April as these are very cold months. Better for ice skaters and purveyors of beautiful scenery as most of Stockholm is covered in a cool white blanket of snow.

As well as these diverse and enjoyable day time activities, Sweden also offers a rich night life too. So after the day is done wind up or down for more fun as the cities come alive to meet the gathering of party revelers.

Tuck into Sweden's substantial cuisine which consists mostly of Pork, Beef and crayfish, covered in rich gravy. Alongside this the swedes prefer a tangy or sour taste so longoberry jam is used with these dishes. Breads of all shapes and sizes are served, with big helpings of potatoes. This helps to ward off the winter chills and set you up for the day. But you can also order a good Pizza in Sweden too.

No Sweden visit is complete without a visit to the cultural house of the Swedish people. Kulturhuset offers a ray of exhibitions, theaters, cafe life, book stores and other cultural festivities. If you are a culture vulture feast here. In the summer months the metros are often turned to clubbing areas which further delights visitors to this trendy spot.

How To Prepare For A Vacation With Your Kids

By Aden Adams

It is always fun for a young adult to go backpacking and discover new places with only a credit card, possibly a passport and just a few pieces of clothing, but for people with children or the elderly, it is not as easy. There needs to be much more organization for a vacation with either of these two groups of people.

Kids can be rather impatient and very hard to manage when they are cranky. To keep this situation at a minimum on vacation, you must have had an organized plan created ahead of time.

You will need to have distractions set up to keep them occupied. Make a list of the foods your child likes to be ready before they get hungry. Children have a specific palate that does not adjust to foreign food or even unusual food well. Check the internet before you leave to make sure you know where kid-friendly restaurants are ahead of time.

Children have an uncanny knack to loudly ask for a bathroom at the most inappropriate times. Take the time to understand the culture of the place in which you plan to travel before you leave so as to keep from making embarrassing mistakes. Find a blog or forum in which other parents discuss their personal experiences in such situations. Some countries, and even some states, have very strict policies on the use of restrooms being provided for patrons rather than just pedestrians off the street.

Keep your cool and your sense of humor because you'll need both. It is very easy to ruin your vacation if you lose your temper with your children over the little things that really do not matter. A vacation is supposed to be a time of relaxing and having fun.

Traveling with the elderly is slightly easier on the emotions because they have more patience but they still require the same amount of planning. The elderly cannot walk long distances because they can get tired very easily. They also have issues with joint pain, bad health and headaches. When you plan your vacation, take these issues into consideration.

Make sure you're planning things that are of interest to them, not just you. Book your plane, train, or boat tickets ahead of time so that you can save them time standing in line. Make sure to check the weather carefully before you pack so you can accommodate to the fact that the elderly often cannot stand extreme weather conditions.

Take the advice given to heart and your vacation should be everything you wish it to be. Have a happy and save time.

Mexico Tops The United States In World Cup Soccer Qualifying

By Ross Everett

An early goal gave the United States soccer team hope, but in the end the result of their World Cup Qualifier against Mexico at Azteca Stadium was a familiar loss. Mexico rallied for a 2-1 triumph in front of their home fans, sending the US to defeat for the 23rd time in 24 games at the venue. The best result the US has been able to muster on Mexican soil was a 0-0 draw in 1997.

The United States quickly silenced the raucous crowd of 100,000+ with a goal just eight minutes into the game. Landon Donovan threaded a perfect pass to a Charlie Davies who converted his four career goal in international play to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. It was the first time in history that the US soccer team led a match at Azteca Stadium.

Mexico would pull even just ten minutes later when Cuauhtemoc Blanco set up Israel Castro, who beat US goaltender Tim Howard to tie the game at 1-1. That set the stage for Miguel Sabah's goal in the 82nd minute which gave Mexico the come-from-behind victory. Mexico coach Javier Aguirre sounded elated and relived with his post match comments:

"Today is a day to celebrate, drink a few tequilas, and then get back to work. Everybody will go to bed tonight a bit more relaxed."

US Coach Bob Bradley was philosophical about the loss:

"I think it's a tight game and a fair score. It's tough loss to have so many guys work so hard and then give up a late goal. The feeling inside is one of great disappointment."

US forward Landon Donovan spoke of his teams performance and the difficulty in playing at the high altitude:

"We did a good job starting the game well and scoring. They made one play at the end that made the difference. It's hard to play here, man. It wears you out. It's just exhausting."

The Americans play Sept. 9 at Trinidad and Tobago. Theyll finish up qualifying on Oct 10 at Honduras and at home against Costa Rica on Oct. 14. Mexico will wrap up qualifying on Oct. 10 at home with El Salvador and at Trinidad and Tobago on Oct. 14.

School Mascots And What They Mean

By Adriana Noton

Mascot are a figure that represents a school or foundation or a group which is supposed to promote the spirit and drive of that group. These symbols give each group member something to identify with and support. These little symbols represent much more than just the group itself.

In history there have been many symbols to represent groups or two opposing sides in a war, or on an idea, or congregations. The symbols given to these groups represent much more than just the image they convey. Some symbols may mean wisdom or strength or loyalty as well as many other things. No matter what these representations mean, they promote spirit and the well being of the group.

In schools these symbols have the same effect, the images become a part of the students identities, they become what they relate to as a whole. The cheer leaders chant the name of the mascot rather than the school name because people do not relate to a building, but the people who are inside the building who call themselves the same mascot that you call yourself. In time it becomes something that needs defending against bad names, or bad reputations, like a family name.

These symbols can have a deep psychological impact on people, for example if a team was to compete against another team called the fluffy bunnies there would be no intimidation factor which is another thing these symbols represent. Without this intimidation factor no team would have an upper hand which could be called cheap or cheating in some ones opinion but it adds to the competition.

These symbols mean more than just school colors, they give people something to relate to and to feel as though they belong to. These symbols provide a means as to which people can feel as though they belong to. Such as clubs or foundations which have a symbol of an animal, instead of saying they belong to the club they simply say they are the animal that represents them. These symbols become a part of who you are.

Mascots may represent current events in the time of construction of a building or a group. For example, a school house which was once a jail house is now called freedom high school, this not only reflects the historical feel of the town and what it has gone through, but it gives the school a patriotic name thus generating the school pride. Several establishments may have been built in honor of people as well, such as presidents, or people such as Martin Luther King Jr.

Although it is uncommon, some schools do not have a symbol like others may have. Many schools like musical conservatoires do not have one because their major focus is on musical theory and such, many private schools are also known to be without a symbol to represent themselves. The reason behind this is due to the fact that many private schools operate under the ideas of a specific religion, which becomes the institutions name; the names of saints or religious figures can be turned into a symbol of representation but it may just be a little too awkward of a situation.

Mascots are simple images or characters that represent a group or an organization, for these to be successful and to make an impact on the group they need to be identifiable and relatable. More importantly they need to be representative of something more than just a mascot group, but for what the group stands for.
