Get Car Hire With A Driver Guanajuato And Explore The Heart Of Mexico

By Karina Frost

Mexico is one of the most fascinating travel destinations in the Americas. It has everything to offer, from the beaches of Los Cabos or Cancun to ancient archaeological sites; from remote jungles or deserts to large, bustling cities. People often forget how big a country Mexico really is. It's often a good idea to have your own transport and if there's one part of Mexico where it's almost essential to opt for car hire with a driver Guanajuato is it.

Guanajuato is one of Mexico's federal states. It's located to the northwest of Mexico City and more or less halfway between the capital and Guadalajara. Its central location makes it very much at the heart of Mexico but it's also the historical heart of the country, since it was at the center of Mexico's fight for independence.

The capital of the state is also called Guanajuato. This beautiful city in the mountains is a World Heritage Site with stunning colonial architecture. Many people regard it as the prettiest city in Mexico. There are wonderful attractions here, such as the Mummy Museum, and the city is also the site of the first battle that was fought in the War of Independence.

Another city that is a World Heritage Site is San Miguel de Allende. Ignacio Allende, one of the heroes of the struggle for independence, was born here and the city is partially named after him. San Miguel de Allende is also famous for its vibrant arts scene and for the nearby Sanctuary of Atotonilco, a world heritage-listed complex that is Mexico's answer to the Sistine Chapel.

Modern Mexico started with a cry for independence, uttered by Father Miguel Hidalgo. He did this in Dolores Hidalgo, which now boasts the Independence Museum and other sights related to the independence movement. It's also the town where Jose Alfredo Jimenez is buried. Jimenez was that most important figure in 'ranchera', a type of Mexican country music.

To make exploring Guanajuato state much easier, there are different tourist routes, each focusing on a certain theme. For instance, the Independence Route has the Mexican War of independence as its focus. You'll also find routes focusing on ancient archaeological treasures, monasteries and action and adventure.

If you love shopping, you simply can't do without your own transport when visiting the state. There are tourist routes that have handicrafts as their theme and they will take you to towns and villages that specialize in items such as silverware, bronze, glass, woolen products such as serapes, woodwork, liquors and food products. Dolores Hidalgo is famous for its ceramics and Leon, the largest city in the state, is considered the world's shoe capital, with well-known brand names as well as specialty shoe stores.

The easiest way to visit is to fly into the city of Guanajuato, which has flight connections to several destinations in the USA and Mexico. At the airport, you'll be able to hire a car. Several car-hire companies will also supply a driver but it's a good idea to book this service online before you arrive.
