Reasons To Use Turkey Hunting Seats

By Minnie Whitley

Truth be told, the typical American simply loves to eat. People would use just about any excuse to have a feast. They keep volumes after volumes of old family recipes in the hope that there will be many occasions in which they would be able to cook all of them at once. Feasts and banquets are among various ways to keep good people together to share good food, and this is why people love it so much.

Time after time, whenever there is a special event or a holiday, it has always been the tradition of American families to share a turkey dinner. This kind of poultry can be bought in stores or caught wild from a hunting spree full of hunters and their turkey hunting seats. Every family also boasts of a special turkey recipe from grandma and how it beats those of the neighbors.

Though no one ever really knows how the fowl has gotten the highest place of honor during special meals, there is no mistaking that it has been the mark of a really good feast. It is a staple in the tables of affluent families. The middle class has to allocate a part of the budget just to be able to have one for dinner, and the marginalized work doubly hard to be able to buy one.

This bird is native to the North America. The wild ones roam most thick woodlands but some grow domesticated ones for marketing purposes. The man grown ones are smaller than their cousins from the wild. Male turkeys are called gobblers, the female one are hens. The male is bigger than the female due to their feathers, but the truth of the matter is that the females have more meat. You can easily mark the male ones due to their wattles, those red flaps under their chin. This way you will know which ones to go after when hunting.

Hunting turkeys can be quite a challenge both to novice hunters and even hunters. Known as the king of the game, these gobblers are very cautious and can disappear in a flash when startled. They can run, walk and fly really well especially when pursued. For a fowl, they are rather smart due to their large brains as compared to their other feathered brethren.

This bird has quite a large diet. It eats almost anything, though the majority are acorns. It will be wise if you look for one in a field where acorns abound. Aside from its favorite food, it also eats seeds, fruits, and tiny insects.

For a successful hunt, you should dress appropriately. Keep in mind that turkeys are very watchful creatures, so you need to be unnoticeable. For this, you will need hats, vests, suits, gloves and head nets that are made of camouflage material. This allows you to blend in and fire at a fowl in closer ranges.

You will also need a shotgun with which you can shoot the birds. The choice in weapon varies from one hunter to the other, so you will have to rely on your instincts in choosing the perfect one for you. You may also want a turkey call so that you can produce sounds that will make them run to you.

Since hunting usually takes hours and even a whole day in the outdoors, chances are, you might get tired waiting for the prize. To add a bit of comfort, more and more turkey hunters now use turkey chairs. These are made of sturdy material to last the harsh conditions in the wild. They also come in colors that allow them to be unnoticeable.
