Christmas and New Year's Eve is almost upon us. Are you like me and starting to save for the upcoming holidays? In recent times New Year's Eve for me has been a time for relaxing and enjoying the night in my favourite restaurant back home with family and a few friends. Last New Year's Eve my friend Lucy and I went to Rio De Janeiro for New Year's Eve. If you are thinking of doing a South American New Year's Eve, but unsure about where you want to go, well stop thinking about it, because Rio De Janeiro is the only place to be in South America for New Year's Eve. Let me tell you, it is easily the best New Year's Eve I have experienced and I cannot wait to do it all again.
Ok, we all know that Rio de Janeiro is renowned for its crazy celebrations all year round, including the Carnival in Rio De Janeiro that is on around February or March each year. But New Year's Eve is also absolutely massive and the best place in the city to be is right on Copacabana Beach. Here people gather and celebrate by drinking, samba dancing, watching the fireworks at midnight, and much more. The firework display on Copacabana Beach for New Year's Eve is something else, as they use expensive and very colorful fireworks, and these really last a long time up in the night sky and the beach and surf is lit up as well.
If you need accommodation there are heaps of hotels close to the beach. Copacabana really is a massive tourist hub, so we stayed in a really neat 4 star hotel right on the beach. Although the hotel was pretty flash, it was still worth the money. We had a great view of the beach and the whole area. The hotel next door to us had a massive New Year's Eve party that looked pretty ritzy, as the party entrance fee was around $1100 USD. However, there are quite a lot of affordable hotels to stay that are right near the beach. Some of them are a bit older, but still do the job you need and are pretty affordable on most budgets.
What makes South America an awesome place for New Year's Eve is that during this time of year, the weather in northern hemisphere countries is cold and often caked in snow. That's why many vacationers will spend their holidays at tropical locations, like Rio de Janeiro. The weather is consistently hot during the holidays, and vacationers will love to swim at the beach all day and night. Rio de Janeiro is one of the best warm weather locations to stay during New Year's Eve.
I know we wasted a lot of time hanging out at the beach, but our trip wasn't just all about swimming at the beach all the time as there was plenty of other things to do in Rio De Janeiro. We decided to do a mountain hike up Sugar Loaf Mountain and this was such an awesome trip. If you want to do some hiking then definitely head to Sugar Loaf Mountain. Also after we did some hiking we took a train ride up Corcovado mountain one day to see the Christ the Redeemer statue. This was so worth it, as you get a great view of the whole city up there.
Hey guys, take my word for it, I can highly recommend you check out Rio De Janeiro for your next New Year's Eve vacation.
