A 72 Hour Emergency Kit Is A Wise Purchase

By Rhea Solomon

Even though many people do not like to think about it, catastrophes can strike at essentially any time. Hurricanes, tornadoes, and other unpredictable events such as terrorist attacks can result in injury, death, or the loss of one's health. If a person is not properly prepared, such as someone who possesses a 72 hour emergency kit, significant loss and harm may be sustained by the individual and his or her loved ones.

In certain instances, warnings of disasters are offered by government organizations, which allow individuals to properly plan for the event. However, there are many scenarios where warnings of this type are simply not possible, and people are left with only several minutes to evacuate or prepare for the situation. This can motivate people to make spur of the moment decisions, which often lead to unsatisfactory results.

The fate of individuals facing man-made or natural disasters largely depends on how well they are prepared. Although warnings and updates may be available through the aforementioned government agencies, acting appropriately and with confidence when an emergency happens is the best way to ensure that losses are kept at a minimum. This is why investing in an emergency kit is an important course of action.

A durable knapsack or backpack should be used to pack the necessary items one requires after a life-threatening incident like a flood, terrorist attack, or fire. Water is an essential consideration, and each individual in the party must have at least one gallon per day. It is also important for each person to have a three day supply of foods that are not perishable. Including a can opener in the kit must not be overlooked if one will be packing canned fare.

A radio that operates on batteries is something no one should overlook when creating an emergency kit. Due to the fact that changes in status of the event and updates are usually reported by radio, this item is essential. Similarly, a flashlight should also be added to the pack, and it is important to ensure that the batteries for such items are not expired.

Dust masks, gloves, and other protective equipment are also good items to place in such a kit. A waterproof container to hold any pertinent medications is another important consideration. It is also wise to include a small first aid kit among the items one will be taking should evacuation become necessary. If children are present, medications should be kept in a childproof container, just as they would be if one were at home.

Proper clothing and blankets should also be included. The best choice is typically camping attire. Heavy socks and comfortable footwear must be included as well. Such items are especially important if the party will be outdoors for extended periods during cold weather.

The tote bag or knapsack chosen should be waterproof, if possible. In addition, the items inside should be properly arranged and the bag should be easy to carry. Premade kits of this type can be found for those who need assistance with organizing such an ensemble.

In today's modern society, it is essential to be prepared for emergencies at all times. If one takes the proper approach, such action will prevent death, injury, and personal harm. This is why many families decide to purchase a high quality 72 hour emergency kit.
