A Few Popular Texas Souvenirs

By Helene Norris

Texas souvenirs are a popular items for visitors to the Lone Star State for the first time. When you are one of the growing number of "winter Texans" you may want to pick up some items to carry back to friends and family who are not fortunate enough to visit Texas in person. Of course, if you are already a resident, you will want to share your good fortune, and perhaps brag a bit, by sending mementos and gifts to those who don't live in the state.

When you want to remember your trip or your experiences while in the state of Texas, choose an item that is usable. The purpose of souvenirs is to jog your memory. You might want to remember activities, people or places that have special meaning to you. When care is taken to pick the right items, the user of the gifts will appreciate you and your thoughtfulness every time the souvenir is used.

There are some types of foods that have a natural association with Tejas. Chili is one good example. Texas chili is known for it's spiciness and for the fact it doesn't contain beans. If you prefer, you might choose to sample some of the great barbecue products. You can arrange to ship barbecue sauce almost anywhere you like. You can choose to eat pecans, cactus, chipotle, or dried peppers as a souvenir of foods from Texas.

If you are searching for items which are both useful and memorable, consider decorative key rings, mugs, coasters and place mats. Every time you pick up your car keys, you will be reminded of the time you spent in the State. Mugs and coffee cups are another popular and useful product.

A star appears on many souvenir items from or about Tejas. You can find it on everything from clothing to furniture. The image is related to the nickname of "The Lone Star State". It has been used in several different flag concepts from as early as 1819. The current design dates back to 1839. Several different meanings have been ascribed to the name and the image. It may be considered to represent the wish for statehood, or that it is the only Mexican state that sought to uphold rights under the 1824 Mexican constitution.

Some items sold as a souvenir are also informational. These are things like DVDs, CDs, books and magazines about the state or areas within the state. A wide range of print materials are available on the history, culture, foods and entertainment of the state. Some people who enjoy maps, might appreciate historical images of the changing boundaries.

You can choose lighthearted or whimsical items to offer as a gift. Armadillo themes are made into banks, toys and like products. There are a number of funny postcards. There are candies that are in the shape of the state or a star.

You can select the right Texas souvenirs for every person on your gift list. There are many local stores, as well as online shops to choose from. When you know the recipient well, you will be able to choose the perfect gift. You can pick for youngsters or senior citizens and every age in between from the range of products.
