The Aesthetic Value In 1950S Jewelry

By Andrea Davidson

1950s jewelry is a category of ornaments that existed in those years. The people who made them and the people who used them used various techniques as well as various materials. Most of them however were made using local means, while a few were made taking into consideration the modern techniques.

Animal parts in those days were considered extremely essential in this industry. There are some animal species that possessed some very beautiful parts. These are the parts that were sought after by the individuals who wanted to make these jewels. Among them were those such as the feathers of some very particular categories of birds and others such as the very hooves and horns of some animals. As such, the artisans here had to possess some skill in the hunting field.

The individuals who used these adorning components felt very good about themselves. It is majorly because they had that natural feeling in them and made them feel very good especially when they were designed according to their traditions. The artisans on the other hand did not struggle much in terms of getting the raw materials. This is especially for those who had the skill to go out into the forests and do the hunting by themselves.

The other artisans of those days resorted to using materials obtained from trees. These in most cases were commodities such as beads. These ones were not obtained just from any tree. There was a special category of these commodities that was used. The selected trees had to have the kinds of beads that could never wither. After drying up, they also were expected to be the kinds that did not break or even crack.

These ones too were even better. The people were not exposed to some risks such as attack by dangerous species during the hunting exercise. Besides the people who were involved in the preparation did not need very complex tools, to have the jewels ready. However, the trees that were used took quite some time before regenerating the beads. This then hindered the artisans from continuous making of these jewels.

The most elaborate of these ornaments were those that were made using metallic elements. The metals that were commonly used were those that did not rust very easily. The people who purchased these ones are the ones who spent the highest amounts of money. The royalties during that time however were privileged enough. As such, they on their part afforded some such as those made of expensive elements like gold and diamonds. These people were highly respected.

This category was considered the best. The individuals who made their ornaments from them felt like they owned the most precious things around. The individuals who also sold them made very high profits from their work and used them in other transactions. The gold varieties were the most expensive then.

1950s jewelry was appreciated by a number of individuals who could not do without adorning themselves. Some of the activities such as hunting for the wild species however really affected wildlife. Some of the jewels here are even used in the recent days.
