Guided And Self-Guided Tours Of Miami Florida

By Teri Farley

Tours of Miami Florida are just as thrilling and multi-hued as the city itself. Visitors of all stripes will find something to their liking, from a guided sightseeing city tour of the major attractions to foodie expeditions and beach hopping. There are quite a few such options, including day trips, self-guided walking and bicycle tours, segway adventures and art deco explorations.

Tourists who are in the city for the very first time will want to take a look at all the famous tourist attractions. This is best done in a guided tour format, where the tour guide follows a set itinerary from one point of interest to the next. Most tours will stop by at Vizcaya, Jungle Island, Coral Castle, Zoo Miami and Gator Park. South Beach and Lincoln Road will also be likely stops on the tour for browsing and shopping.

Some visitors prefer not to be herded around in groups. In this case, a more flexible option is a hop-on, hop-off bus. Get a multi-day ticket for a city loop or beach loop ride. This allows passengers to get on a bus and then hop off at an attraction or place they want to explore, and then get back on the bus at their own convenience at any point on the route.

The starting point for these buses is Central Station. The beach loop then takes passengers on a circuitous route around the island of Miami Beach, offering spectacular views on Collins Avenue, Ocean Drive and South Beach. The city loop bus drives through all the tourist-friendly districts, including Coral Gables, Downtown Miami, Little Havana and Coconut Grove. This route allows passengers to stop by at famed tourist attractions such as the Art Deco District and Vizcaya.

Day trips from the city are another option popular among tourists. It could be a visit to the Everglades to take an airboat ride and hang out with the 2,000 alligators at the Everglades Alligator Farm. It could just as well be a delightful and serene day spent exploring Key West.

Foodies can stick a fork into a number of culinary tours. Many head straight for Little Havana to find mouthwatering Cuban breaded chicken toston with plantains, to be followed by a heavenly Cafe Cubano. Others may seek variety in South Beach, where restaurants of all stripes offer everything from Italian gelatos to Colombian empanadas and kosher Jewish food. The tour company should be able to provide a custom culinary tour for individuals upon request.

Visitors interested in a walking or bike tour likewise have a wide range of possibilities. It could be a trip down Calle Ocho and Little Havana, or an art deco walk or ride in Miami Beach. Segway tours are just as much fun, segueing off to sunset points or barreling along the riverwalk.

The entire city can be explored methodically with tours of Miami Florida that are self-guided. All it needs is for the visitor to use the GPS to move from one visit-worthy attraction to another one, while listening to the audio about what to do and see on the way. Go Miami Cards can save a bundle on entry fees to attractions that would otherwise have to be paid individually.
