South Africa, the Perfect Location for Incredible Vacations

By Shawn Schmidt

When you are thinking of where to go but are still undecided, visit South Africa! Truthfully, it is a land which offers many holidays in one. You can enjoy nature and safaris for a few days, clubbing and concerts for a couple more days, then finish off with Hawaiian style beaches, surfing or various other water sports. Not many countries provide this type of variety.

The most common thing that travelers do when they arrive in SA is that they book for a safari in the North Western area of the country, maybe go off to the Durban coastline and then take an airplane to Cape Town. This is normally a great plan because you get to have different holidays in one. It's not actually that important if you begin in Cape Town or if you begin in the Kruger, however it is an excellent idea to book a domestic flight at some point. It is not a good idea to drive from Cape Town to Durban or Jo'burg. It's a long and exhausting drive and it's not always beautiful, so rather go by plane.

Also, if you skip JHB completely, you are not missing out on much. In the summer, all the people from Johannesburg take their holidays in Cape Town, which is a clear indication of which city is worth checking out! The only reason why you would drop in on Johannesburg, is to rent an automobile and drive off to "safari land".

South Africa tours typically start in Stellenbosch, a lovely University Town with Cape Dutch Architecture. From there you could do some wine tasting at one of the many vineyards in the area and then head off to Spier Wine Farm for lunch or tea. Spier is the location of an unique wildlife program and it is possible to accompany the guides that work there right into the cheetah cages to stroke them! The cheetah's that live at Spier are rather tame but they are still wild animals and so it is necessary to take suitable safety measures. Only a few people go in at once and the guide is always present. No-one is allowed in if the cats are looking agitated. Stroking a live cheetah is really an extraordinary experience.

After your day in Stellenbosch, you might enjoy a walk in the city center. It is advised you do this whilst all the shops are open, which is until around 5.00 pm. The main road is called Adderly Street and you will enjoy the flower market and the many stores. You could likewise go to St. Georg's Mal and Long Street, which are full of flea markets and cafes.

Individuals you will come across are either the original African populations, such as the Xhosa and the Zulu, or the fair skinned descendants of the Dutch and English colonialists. You will also meet a very large community of Muslim people, which are the descendants of the Indian servants. South Africans are normally friendly, welcoming and helpful to tourists.

The five star safari lodges in South Africa are absolutely spectacular. Even if you are sleeping in a tent, it will most likely have a marvelously comfortable bed and sumptuous bed linen.

South Africa is a land full of things to do, from the majestic beauty of the dry Karoo, to the historic charm of the rolling wine lands, to the untamed appeal of the windy beaches. Make certain you prepare a schedule that enables you to enjoy South Africa for everything it provides.
