Travel Advice To Avoid Annoying Other Travelers

By Erika Ferrerat

It seems as if it happens every trip. While on vacation, there is inevitably someone who seems to go out of their way to be annoying to others around them, particularly when flying. This travel advice can help travelers from becoming the annoying individual everyone else remembers.

Most airplanes have seats in coach class arranged in groups of three. This means that three people, each with two arms are expected to share. There are two arms that will not have a rest for much of the duration of the flight. Give the poor traveler in the middle seat a break just use the rest that is on the outside.

While children love to take a trip and the adventures open new worlds for them, they should be prepared for the airplane ride. Chewing gum can prevent the pressure from affecting their ears. Bring their own carry-on with things to keep them busy for the duration of the flight. Remember they have a short attention span, so bring a variety of portable activities. If there is to be an in flight meal, call ahead and ask for the kid friendly option that they will enjoy more.

While it may be tempting to recline one's seat for a nap, consider what that does to the person behind you. The seat back just reduced his or her leg room. The neighbor can no longer enjoy the seatback television for the flight. If attempting to work on a laptop in flight, the individual is no longer able to open the screen to the optimal angle for viewing. The lap tray becomes virtually useless. Keep the seat back up if at all possible and if it is necessary to recline at all, keep it to a minimum.

Avoid being the traveler who knows everything. Regardless of how often one flies, rules can change. TSA and airline employees do know their job, so avoid arguing. Once the final destination is reached, take the time to listen to what the locals say in order to learn more. Do not be the traveler who compares everything in this location to what happens back home.

Flight attendants work hard to ensure everyone has an enjoyable flight. They have many passengers needing their attention for the flight. If something is needed use the call button and be patient. Do not snap your fingers to get their attention as surveys show this to be extremely annoying of passengers.

With increased security, be sure to arrive at the airport early. Remember these individuals are working to make the flight safer for everyone. Be cooperative as they try to do their job. Plan ahead so it is easy to find the ziplock bag with the liquids in the luggage. Choose shoes that are easy to slip off and on at the checkpoint. Be sure to remove all metal items before passing the detector.

Whether traveling for business or pleasure, it is important to be courteous to others around you. Many are on a trip of their lifetime and have saved years for the experience. Take this travel advice to avoid being the person who spoils their fun.
