Planning Your Honeymoon

By Gabrielle Knoss

It is not unusual for engaged couples to forget to plan their honeymoon once they are totally engrossed in the preparation of their wedding. The wedding and the parties before and after usually include many people. There are bridesmaids, ushers and parents to consider as well as guests from out of town. For this activity, couples will get plenty of help from friends and relatives, but planning their honeymoon will be theirs alone. Wise wedding couples will not leave the honeymoon ideas too late because travel plans are better made far in advance. Honeymoon means travelling to a place, and that means making travel and accommodation arrangements well in advance, the sooner the better.

The best place to start looking for honeymoon ideas is with the two people going on the honeymoon. The happy couple are the only people who matter on the honeymoon so these are the people that need to make these plans. They can start thinking of the possible places that they can go to immediately after they have set the date of their wedding. They should decide what they will want to do after a hectic wedding schedule and the emotional times included in that planning. Some couples will anticipate that they might be too emotionally and physically drained that they would prefer some peace and quiet, while others will take it as an opportunity to enjoy the sights together.

Choosing the place and the type of the honeymoon is just the first step; the couple will have to attend to the preparatory phase of the preparation next. They may talk with friends who have gone through the same phase and get some ideas and suggestions. If they are planning a cruise trip they can have conversations with relatives or acquaintances who have done so and hear their stories. One of the best sources of travel information are travel magazines or the travel sections of newspapers. The couple may do the checking individually or together if they have the time so they can discuss matters right there and then. One of the first things they should do after deciding on a destination is to inquire about reservations.

Travel magazines are great places to look for honeymoon ideas. Places, accommodations, how to get there, prices and more - all of these you can usually read in a travel magazine. Those on a budget might want to start with looking for some bargains in the newspapers. There are often some great deals on airfare and on accommodations away from home.

If money is not an object, the budget should be ready for an extravagant honeymoon, and then any destination is a possibility. At the risk of being repetitious, you have to plan for an enjoyable and unforgettable honeymoon.
