How to Get Ready for a Fun Vacation in the Park

By Autumn Lockwood

If your family's vacation budget is a bit tight this year, don't worry. Just because you cannot afford an expensive family vacation doesn't mean you cannot still have fun as a family. Sometimes, simple vacations can in fact be even more enjoyable than expensive ones. Think back on some of the fun times you've had in the past, and you may be surprised by how many of them were simple things that really cost little or no money. After all, the destination is not the most crucial part of a family vacation - the truly important component is simply spending precious time together as a family. If you're looking for something reasonably priced to do as a family vacation, or you just want to have fun during a free afternoon, then planning a vacation day at the park could be exactly the thing for you!

Deciding Where to Go

Chances are good that you have a park somewhere near you if you are living in the typical neighborhood. In fact, in many cases you will discover that you actually have several parks within close driving distance of where you live. When you research the subject, you might even find out that there are different attractions that each park has. For instance, one park might have a baseball field, while yet another has a great picnic area. Many local parks also have nature walks and walking paths that you can enjoy. Your target should be the park that has the most features that everybody in your family will have a good time with. Of course, sometimes it is also fun to try something new. After the location is chosen, then will come the planning.

Making Plans for Your Vacation Day at the Park

Even though spontaneous outings to the park can be a whole lot of fun, you can sometimes have an even better trip if you just do some planning first. Choose a couple activities that you'd like to participate in throughout your day at the park, and gather together your equipment and supplies if necessary. One example of an inexpensive way to have a good time is to bring some kites to the park if it is a windy day. Or, put together a picnic lunch, allowing everybody to contribute something to the menu. Do not forget to take your camera, since that will permit you to capture some awesome memories which may later be preserved inside picture frames or a scrapbook at home. You might also want to load up sports supplies like a baseball, bat and glove, or some tennis rackets if you know the park has a court you can play on. There are even many parks that allow pets, provided that you clean up after your pet and they are held on a leash.

How to Preserve the Memories of Your Family's Day of Vacation

You'll want to take lots of pictures of your vacation at the park, even if it didn't include anything different or exotic. Take photographs of your family enjoying time together, as well as pictures depicting the overall splendor of nature. You might even want to get enlargements made of some of your photos, placing them in large picture frames to make interesting and reasonably priced wall art.

So you see, vacations don't have to be long or costly. All it takes is a bit of planning, a place to go, and the desire to have fun!
