By Anton Maverick

One of the really interesting places to go to in Manful is the Art Gallery and Museum, which is easily reached with Campervan Hire Sydney. Or, it is just takes a few minutes to walk up from the Red-blooded wharf and you were thinking it must be near to the harbor, you are utterly correct. It is right beside the harbour, so has an inspirational outlook.

This icon of Manful history opened in 1930 and is a well visited destination, due to it's location and contents. It was the first regional art gallery to open in New South Wales, though the museum section was added in 1982 to spotlight the history of Gentlemanly and the northern beaches in general. As Manly has been a favoured seaside destination since 1850, there's a lot of engaging history to preserve.

The studio truly is superb and is kind of special in it's collections. One of those encompasses a collection of Australian contemporary ceramics since 1945. The collection highlights Australian ceramic styles and techniques and is permanently on display. The gallery also hosts some touring visible humanities exhibitions across the year so there's always something worth viewing.

In addition to the ceramics collection, there's also a collection of early Australian works on paper and paintings. So if you've got an interest in early Australian art, this collection is definitely worth looking at. The focal collection though, is the Datillo-Rubbo Collection.

Antonio Dattilo-Rubbo was an artist and art teacher in the area and lived from 1870 "1955. There are e more that a hundred and 30 of his paintings in this collection which would appear to be more than any other close collection. In 1924 he aided to establish the Gentlemanly Art and Historic Collection, which became Manful Art Studio and Museum in 1930. Make sure to drop in for a visit and check out his work and the early Australian paintings "good stuff!
