When your kids leave home you should use the additional space for fun

By Tina Bowen

It might not always seem like it, but your children won't stay at home forever. When they move out of the family home and into places of their own, they leave behind them a lot of unoccupied space. It sometimes take a bit of getting used to, but that space can be used however you like.

Many people choose to leave their children's bedrooms as they are when they move out, but this represents something of a waste. Although it makes sense to turn one bedroom into an attractive guest room, there is no reason why you shouldn't convert another bedroom into something you will actually use.

Home offices are pretty popular when family homes need to adapt to new circumstances. However, home offices aren't a lot of fun and many people think that the temptation of another living room, a nice library or an entertaining games room is a better way of doing things.

In fact, it is possible to conflate all these ideas into one. You can easily turn a room into a second lounge by placing some attractive furniture in the room along with a television, some nice wall art, a rug and some versatile lighting. Adding some book shelves to the equation means the room also acts as a kind of library.

The only things missing are the bits and pieces for a games room, but the introduction of a pool table takes care of that. Pool tables never look out of place in living rooms or libraries and they help to bridge the gap between the two aesthetics at the same time as providing a bit of excitement.

Entertainment is important in an inviting living space and that is what pool tables provide. Just think of the comfortable evenings you could spend with friends and family or on your own in a room complete with a television, a pool table, plenty of books and some lovely furniture.
