Arranging Cheap Vacations That Can Salvage Your Wallet

By Adriana Noton

In today's uncertain economy and raising gas prices everyone seems to be looking for alternatives for cheap vacation packages. People still want to travel and spend time with family and have fun. There are many ways to do this without having to spend an arm and a leg.

One option is to plan your travel in the off season. Research your destination and you may find that there are certain times of the year when prices are lower than others. If it is a destination you have traveled to before, this is a good option because it allows you to see the familiar places in a different season, which can make it seem brand new again. If you usually travel in the summer, plan your vacation in the fall. The changing foliage will be an added bonus, and make the same old places seem brand new.

If you travel with a group you may save on gas costs as well as receive discounted hotel rates. Hotels often give discounts if your rent more than one room for several nights. Traveling with a group of friends will not only ease your budget, it will give you wonderful memories as well.

If you have family that lives in a different city or town, you could plan your trip to visit and possibly stay with them. This would cut down on the cost of lodging or hotels. Of course, make sure that this is a good plan for your family members. It may not be a good time for them to have company and the space that they have for guests may be limited.

If you have pinched pennies and still can not manage to take a trip, you may want to plan a series of day trips instead. Find interesting places to explore close to home. This is a really good idea if you have young children. You can use the opportunity to teach them about their local area and the local history if you visit local museums and historical sites.

If you do not mind sleeping outside in a tent on the ground then camping can be a really good alternative. You can rent a camping area a very small fee. Often you can camp several nights for the same cost as one night at a hotel. This will let you enjoy nature and children will love the adventure. This is a really good idea if you are not afraid to stay outside. Campgrounds today offer a lot of amenities and it does not have to be the purely primitive adventure it once was.

You may be able to get really good vacation deals as well if you buy a package deal. This is a good idea if there are a lot of attractions in the area you are going to. There are some tourism boards that offer city passes that gives you admittance to several attractions at a lower cost. These can sometimes even be bundled with your hotel cost and save you even more money.

There are timeshare companies that will offer you a cheaper or discounted vacation if you sit through their seminars. These often include sales pitches for you to buy a timeshare. These can be very aggressive. Some are even fraudulent, so you may want to do a lot of research about the company with the deal before accepting this type of cheap or free vacations. If it seems too good to be true then it probably is.
