Martin Scorsese And His Best Movies In Throughout His Career

By Brian Matthews

Plain and simple, few directors do it better than Martin Scorsese. Sure, the guy likes to stay in his comfort zone a lot of the time and work with actors that he is very comfortable with (ahem, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio), but that does not stop him from putting out some of the greatest films of all time. Scorsese is a genius and it shows in his films.

When it comes to choosing the best Martin Scorsese films, the following are my favorites.

The first movie which I will mention is Raging Bull. This film was released in 1980, long after movies left the realm of black and white. But Scorsese returned to black and white for this movie, and I believe it was a better film because of it. Both De Niro and Pesci were amazing in this movie.

Gangs Of New York was not a film that I immediately wanted to see. It was only after I heard so many positive things about this DiCaprio and Scorsese collaboration that I decided to see it. Daniel Day Lewis was spectacular as Bill the Butcher.

One Martin Scorsese movie that I absolutely loved was Goodfellas. This movie often gets thrown around in the discussion with The Godfather Saga as the best mafia movie of all time. The crazy thing is, Goodfellas is based on a true story.

I would be remiss to make a list of Martin Scorsese movies without giving praise to The Last Waltz. This is more of a music documentary than true movie, but many consider this to be the best of its kind. This film chronicles the last concert of the legendary group, The Band.

Finally, I have to give mention to Casino. People go back and forth about which film is better, Casino or Goodfellas. In the end, it is a matter of personal preference, and my favorite of these two is Casino.

Hopefully you found one or films on this epic list that you have yet to view.
