Locating Good Launceston Accommodation For Tasmania, AU Holidays

By Walter Llewelyn-Brown

Finding Launceston accommodation isn't that big an issue. But it does need a little bit of input to match a property against preferences, such as whether the visitor is interested in the city itself or is using it as a gateway into the Tamar Valley. Another possible factor to consider would be whether said visitor is interested in the city's urban and manmade attractions or surrounding parks and outdoor attractions.

Perhaps a bit of background about the city and its attractions for visitors might be useful at this stage. Launceston is Tasmania's second biggest city and is about two hours away from the capital Hobart, located at the junction of the North & South Esk Rivers. It also happens to be the gateway into Tamar Valley. This makes the city just as important a getaway destination for Hobart residents as the Hunter Valley towns like Cessnock are for visitors from Sydney.

Other than that, visitors will find plenty of historic Victorian buildings and landmarks from a strong colonial past to admire, since the city dates all the back to 1806. The city also has many urban attractions like museums and galleries, with a waterfront cafes and a nice boardwalk. There are also major tourist attractions like the Seaport, James Boag Brewery and Penny Royal World.

Natural wonders and adventure can be found in Cataract Gorge and many of the surrounding National Parks and mountainous areas like Ben Lomond. As is obvious from the variety of things to do in and around the city, Launceston accommodation has to be chosen based on which of these activities is the visitor's primary point of interest. So a visitor planning to stay in the city for more than a day should look for a hotel in the city centre, such as the hotels on Earl St.

Others more interested in forays into Tamar Valley for winery or vineyard tours should consider a hotel on Tamar Street in the downtown area. This location is ideal since it is close to the Wine Route. It also offers easy access to the aforementioned attractions within the city.

For those more interested in price and value, there are cheap hotels as well as other lodging options all over the city. For instance, some cheap hotels in York Street in central Launceston provide rooms for families that come with Queen Beds and two single beds. With good service and plenty of shopping, parks and cafes nearby, it makes an ideal location for a family on a budget vacation.

An budget option is a motel or motor inn near the airport, along Westbury Road. Visitors can fly in and rent a car which can be parked free at the cheap motel/motor inn. It is also then very easy to go around the city and Tamar Valley.

For travelers who prize their privacy, need more facilities or are on an extended stay, there are many well furnished apartment rentals in nice parts of the city, like those near the restaurant precinct, on Paterson St. Travelers can pay for these apartments by the day, week or month. Choose the right location, and then regardless of which of these Launceston accommodation choices the traveler likes, the services and facilities provided will ensure the stay is convenient and comfortable.
