Finding Good Charleston SC Hotels

By Chris Matthews

Travelers looking for Charleston SC hotels would be well advised to look it up on a map and see the layout. This is important in this case because the Downtown area is on a peninsula. It is separated from the city's other parts by the Ashley & Cooper rivers that meet here and flow into the Atlantic.

This rather unique layout provides travelers with a choice of three broad locations for finding a hotel. Other than the downtown peninsula, the two other choices are Greater and North Charleston. The choice has to be made on a case to case basis, because each traveler will no doubt have different reasons for visiting, a different budget and different ways of going around the city.

Even so, there are a few simple things that can make the choice easier. Travelers should be aware that the historic attractions on the downtown peninsula, including the Citadel and French Quarter, are closely bunched together and can easily be seen on foot. A ferry takes people from Liberty Square to Fort Sumter, and for those who want to see the Holy City's Churches, there are many tour buses waiting.

The point is that it's not necessary to stay in the downtown area. Besides, many of the historic downtown hotels are too costly for ordinary visitors. Of the other two, North Charleston is the better choice because of its proximity to the airport, Coliseum, Convention Center and the Downtown area. Visitors will find a stay in a hotel here relatively cheap and more convenient for both business and leisure.

That's a good enough tip for the location, so let's see what can be said about what guests should expect from Charleston SC hotels. For starters, expect a home away from home and a lot of Southern hospitality, starting with a newspaper delivered to the door every morning, along with a free and hot breakfast. Top that off with complimentary wifi internet and free local calls.

Free coffee will always be available in the lobby, and valet dry cleaning will take care of all the hassles. After a hard day of tramping around the city, guests can simply lie back and wallow in the outdoor pool. For those who want to work out, there'll be an onsite fitness center.

Business travelers too find a hotel here quite convenient with the airport and convention center in close proximity, and free shuttles for quick and easy transport. Work-desks with ergonomic chairs will be available in room, along with room service from restaurants onsite. Almost every airport hotel here also offers a park, stay & go package to make travel hassle-free.
